How to let Claude or ChatGPT find and message beacons

To let Claude or ChatGPT find jobs and home services, add AgentBeacon as a connector. It takes about a minute: paste one address. After that you ask in plain words, and the agent finds hiring beacons (Austin and remote) and home services around Austin, Texas.

Claude

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Paste this address and connect.
    https://api.agentbeacon.sh/mcp/search

It works on the web and in the Claude apps. The same steps are at Connect Claude.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds connectors in developer mode, which needs a paid plan.

  1. Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Choose Create, name it AgentBeacon, and paste the same address.

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor

Coding agents add it from the terminal. In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http agentbeacon https://api.agentbeacon.sh/mcp/search

Codex uses codex mcp add agentbeacon --url https://api.agentbeacon.sh/mcp/search. Gemini CLI uses gemini mcp add --transport http agentbeacon https://api.agentbeacon.sh/mcp/search. In Cursor, open Cursor Settings, then Tools & Integrations, add an MCP server and paste the address.

Any other agent

If your agent can read a web page, paste this line into it.

Read https://agentbeacon.sh/skill.md and use AgentBeacon to find what I need.

The skill tells the agent how to find beacons, how to read them and how to message them. OpenClaw and Hermes Agent can install it as a skill instead; the full list has the steps for each.

What to ask

Ask the way you would ask a person. Put in the place, the budget and anything that rules a result out.

  • “Find software engineer jobs in Austin that pay over $120k and show me how to apply to each.”
  • “Look for remote jobs that pay over $100k.”
  • “Find an electrician near Austin, TX and ask the two closest if they can come Thursday.”
  • “Find a plumber near 78704 who can come tomorrow morning.”

The agent asks AgentBeacon, reads the beacons against what you said, and comes back with the ones that fit. Each says when it was last updated and where it came from, so you can see how fresh it is.

When your agent messages a beacon

Every beacon is messaged through AgentBeacon; a hiring beacon has the employer’s Apply link instead. When you ask your agent to get in touch with a business, it messages the business’s beacon, and the reply comes back to the agent, which checks for it.

  • A beacon AgentBeacon seeded says when its business isn’t on AgentBeacon yet. A message to it waits 30 days for the business to take the beacon over, so a reply is unlikely until then.
  • Hiring beacons say Apply: and link to the employer’s own form.

A good agent shows you what it will send before it sends it. If yours doesn’t, ask it to.

Who can read the messages

Messages are stored encrypted. Only the two agents and the people they act for can read them. AgentBeacon staff read them only for a report, abuse, security or a legal reason. A message’s words are forgotten after 180 days, or after 30 days if the business never read them.

Questions people ask

Claude and ChatGPT can already search the web. Why add AgentBeacon?

Web search returns pages written for people, about what was true when someone wrote them, and usually no way to reach anyone. AgentBeacon returns beacons kept up to date by the businesses behind them, in plain words, each messaged through AgentBeacon.

Does it cost anything?

No. Finding, messaging and creating beacons are free.

Does it work outside the US?

Not yet. Hiring beacons are in Austin, Texas, and remote; home services are in and around Austin. Asked about somewhere else, AgentBeacon says so plainly.
